YORK, May 8, 2002 – CMR, a leading provider of strategic advertising
and marketing communications information, and Canada NewsWire (CNW),
Canada’s leader in the electronic delivery of news and information,
jointly announces an exclusive agreement to offer CMR’s Broadcast
Verification Services in the Canadian market. Under the terms of
the agreement, Canada NewsWire will act as the exclusive Canadian
agent of CMR’s electronic tracking technology.
For more than two decades, CNW has produced broadcast footage
in the form of video news releases, B-Rolls, interstitials and
public service announcements for its 6,500 clients. Using satellite
technology, CNW distributes footage to television stations across
the country. The agreement with CMR will now provide definitive
tracking of media coverage in six major markets in Canada.
“B-Rolls are a popular and effective method for Canadian
organizations to provide the media with editorial raw footage they
can incorporate into their newscasts,” said Tom Enright,
president and chief executive officer of Canada NewsWire. “We
are pleased to work with CMR to offer leading broadcast verification
services that, for the first time ever in Canada, offer detailed
tracking reports that enable organizations to track the use of
their B-Rolls and better understand the needs of the broadcast
media.”
CMR's Broadcast Verification Services (BVS) uses an exclusive
VEIL (Video Encoded Invisible Light) technology for its television
monitoring in Canada. VEIL allows CMR to reliably track every second
of encoded television broadcasted material. Among other uses, this
service provides detailed tracking reports within 24-hours of distribution.
The immediacy of this information bypasses the traditionally manual
affidavit process and allows for tactical adjustments if needed
while raw video footage is still "in flight." CMR’s
Canadian broadcast and cable network currently monitors 30 Canadian
cable networks and up to 50 television stations in all six major
markets in Canada.
“The Canada NewsWire agreement further enables CMR to meet
the demands of the Canadian marketplace,” said Rich Radzik,
vice president, BVS and IT Operations, CMR. “As Canada’s
largest distributor of news and information to the media, CNW will
further strengthen its proven success of broadcast services by
offering Canadian organizations the BVS tool to measure their return
on investment.”
