Motion Picture Advertising Shows Incremental Increase
The Category's 1.5% Increase Trails the 10.3% Overall Jump
 
Walt Disney Company, spending $404.2 million in advertising for films put out by Walt Disney Pictures, Miramax, Dimension Films, Touchstone Pictures and Buena Vista, led all parent companies in the motion picture industry ranked by 1999 advertising expenditures. This is according to Competitive Media Reporting (CMR) the nation's leading provider of advertising intelligence. Walt Disney, through the Walt Disney Pictures studio, also earned the mark of having the picture with the highest ad budget — $29.0 million spent on behalf of Tarzan. Universal Studios, a subsidiary of Seagram, ranked as the studio spending the largest amount to advertise its 1999 films - $268.9 million across such pictures as American Pie, The Bone Collector, Bowfinger, For Love of the Game, Man on the Moon and Notting Hill.

On the strength of The Matrix ($23.9 million from the Warner Bros Studio), The Green Mile ($20.8 million - Time Warner Studios) and Analyze This ($20.4 million - Warner Bros), Time Warner ranked as the second leading parent company spending a total of $378.1 million to promote its studio's movies.
