Competitive Media Reporting and Veil™ Interactive Technologies Partner for Broadcast Verification

Competitive Media Reporting (CMR), the leading provider of competitive advertising intelligence, and VEIL™ Interactive Technologies, developer of innovative interactive television technology and products, have partnered to implement patented VEIL II technology for CMR's broadcast verification services. CMR will use the VEIL II technology as its standard for broadcast verification.

VEIL Interactive Technologies' President and CEO Edward J. (Ted) Koplar and David Peeler, Senior Vice President, CMR, announced the relationship citing the advantages and increased opportunity for both companies. Mr. Koplar said, "CMR is the leading provider of strategic advertising expenditure and occurrence data to advertising agencies, advertisers, broadcasters and publishers. We are pleased that they have chosen to expand our relationship by implementing innovative VEIL II for their broadcast verification services."

In turn, Mr. Peeler stated, "The upgrade of VEIL II into CMR's existing broadcast verification services will further enhance the quality of information we provide domestically. Given our pending merger with market information leader, Taylor Nelson Sofres, VEIL II should open the door for international expansion of CMR's broadcast verification services."

CMR's broadcast verification services, which VEIL II will support, includes the tracking and reporting of advertising, news segments and programming occurrences. VEIL II technology allows advertisers and content providers to track exactly who aired what advertisement at what time on which channel and in which market within 24 hours of airing. CMR already provides extensive intelligence and collects creative executions for over 900,000 brands across 15 media, including Network TV, Spot TV, Cable Networks, and Syndicated TV.

Mr. Koplar further stated, "We are proud of all that VEIL can offer and enable, and we've had the luxury of benefiting from its many strengths and applications. By using VEIL II as its standard for broadcast verification services, we are pleased that CMR will be able to share in those unique benefits."

How VEIL Works
VEIL, which stands for Video Encoded Invisible Light, allows digital information to be inserted into an ordinary television's video image. This additional data rides on the active video signal. It can be transmitted via broadcast, cable, DBS, or home video, and received by low-cost detection devices anywhere the broadcast can be seen. Unlike systems using television's Vertical Blanking Interval (VBI ) for data transmission, VEIL cannot be stripped from the broadcast signal. It survives video recording as well as digital compression, guaranteeing reliable interactive capability within existing analog television sets. Not limited to TVs or set-top boxes, VEIL decoding devices can be customized and integrated within numerous consumer products.
