Federated Department Stores Leads Retail Sector Ad Spending
 
Spending $433.2 million in advertising through the first three quarters of 2000, Federated Department Stores continued to set the pace in the retail industry. Behind Federated, May Department Stores Company ranked second, spending $329.2 million. As for the top spending brands, Circuit City Stores spent $218.3 million and Home Depot Home Center spent $191.4 million.

Overall, the retail sector saw an increase from the first three quarters of 1999 ($8.63 billion) to the same time period of 2000 ($9.63 billion). The category increase of 11.5% lagged behind the overall advertising expenditure increase of 15.9%.
